What is Videk?

Videk is a multi-camera video production system for Apple platforms, consisting of two apps: Videk Director and Videk Camera. Videk Camera runs on each iPhone or iPad you want to use as a camera. Videk Director runs on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac you use as your control room.

The cameras send live video to the Director over your local Wi-Fi network. From the Director you monitor every angle, switch between them in real time, record all of them as separate tracks, add overlays, and live stream to YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Instagram, or any custom RTMP server.

How does Videk work?

You create a session in Videk Director, which generates a 6-digit code. On each camera device you open Videk Camera and enter that code. Devices find each other automatically over the local network using Bonjour — there are no IP addresses to configure.

Each camera encodes video in real time with hardware H.264 and streams it to the Director over a custom low-latency TCP protocol. The Director decodes every feed, composites the program output on the GPU with Metal, and sends it to the recorder, the RTMP stream, or both.

Do I need both apps?

Yes. Videk Director is the control room and Videk Camera is the camera source, so a minimum setup is one device running Videk Director plus at least one device running Videk Camera. Both apps are free downloads on the App Store.

Is Videk free?

Yes, Videk is free to use with up to 2 cameras. The free version includes live camera switching, auto/timed/random switch modes, text and image overlays, multi-track recording, and RTMP live streaming.

Videk Pro unlocks unlimited cameras, video export, export for iMovie, export for Final Cut Pro, and iCloud archiving of recorded sessions.

Do I need an account to use Videk?

No. Videk has no accounts, no sign-ups, and no login. You download the apps and start a session immediately.

Can I use multiple iPhones as cameras?

Yes — that is exactly what Videk is built for. Install Videk Camera on every iPhone (or iPad) you want to use as a camera and join them all to the same session from Videk Director. Each phone becomes an independently controllable camera with manual exposure, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and zoom.

How many cameras can I connect?

The free version supports up to 2 cameras. Videk Pro removes that limit, so the practical ceiling becomes your Wi-Fi network: each camera uses roughly 2–3 Mbps, so five cameras need about 12–15 Mbps of headroom on the router.

For productions with many cameras, use a 5 GHz network — ideally a dedicated router — and consider setting cameras to 720p to keep every feed smooth.

What devices does Videk support?

Videk Director runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later, and on Mac with macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later. Videk Camera runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later.

Does Videk work on Mac?

Yes, for the Director role. Videk Director is available for macOS 14.0 or later, which gives you the control room on a large screen. Camera sources themselves must be iPhones or iPads running Videk Camera — the Mac app does not act as a camera.

Does Videk work on Android or Windows?

No. Videk is an Apple-only system. There is no Android app, no Windows app, and no browser version. Every camera must be an iPhone or iPad, and the Director must be an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Can I use a DSLR, mirrorless camera, GoPro, or USB webcam as a source?

No. Camera sources have to be iPhones or iPads running Videk Camera. Videk does not accept HDMI, SDI, USB, or NDI inputs.

Can the Director device also be used as a camera?

No. Videk Director is dedicated to control, monitoring, recording, and streaming. Plan for one device running Director plus a separate device per camera angle.

Does Videk require an Internet connection?

No, not for the production itself. Cameras connect to the Director over your local Wi-Fi network, so switching, monitoring, and recording all work completely offline. You only need Internet when you live stream to an external platform such as YouTube or Twitch.

Do all devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network?

Yes. All cameras and the Director must be on the same local network (the same SSID). Videk uses Bonjour/mDNS for discovery and a direct TCP connection for video, so there is no cloud relay and no way to connect a camera from a different location over the Internet.

How much Wi-Fi bandwidth does Videk need?

Around 2–3 Mbps per connected camera. A 5 GHz network is strongly recommended, and a dedicated router gives the most reliable results for larger productions. Live streaming adds its own upload requirement on top — typically 1–8 Mbps depending on the bitrate you choose.

Can I use a personal hotspot instead of a router?

Yes. A personal hotspot or a dedicated travel router works well and is often the best option on corporate, school, or venue networks, where local network discovery (Bonjour/mDNS) is frequently blocked by firewalls or client isolation.

Why can’t Videk Director find my camera?

The most common cause is the Local Network permission. Both apps request it on first launch; if it was declined, enable it in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network for both Videk apps.

Also confirm that every device is on the exact same Wi-Fi network, that the 6-digit session code matches, and that the network does not block mDNS. If discovery still fails, end the session on the Director, create a new one, and rejoin.

Can Videk record every camera separately?

Yes. When you record a session, every connected camera is captured as its own MP4 video track, not just the switched program output. The Director also stores a source-selection timeline of which camera was live at each moment.

Can I change my camera switches after recording?

Yes. Because all sources are recorded, you can re-edit the source selection timeline after the fact inside the Director: play the session back with all angles synchronized, change which camera is active at any point, and then export the result.

Can I edit Videk recordings in Final Cut Pro?

Yes, with Videk Pro. Export for Final Cut Pro produces a ZIP containing an FCPXML project plus every camera track, with your edit timeline and camera switches preserved. Open the FCPXML in Final Cut Pro and all angles land on the timeline ready to cut.

Can I export to iMovie or another editor?

Yes. Videk Pro includes an iMovie export with individual camera tracks, and a standard export that renders your edited selection into a single MP4 file you can drop into any editor or upload directly.

Where are my recordings stored?

Recordings are stored on the Director device in the session library, with date, duration, and source metadata. Videk Pro can additionally archive sessions to iCloud so they survive the device and can be restored later.

Can Videk stream to YouTube?

Yes. Videk Director includes RTMP streaming with pre-configured server URLs for YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, and TikTok — paste in your stream key and tap Start Stream. Any other platform works too via a custom RTMP server URL.

Do I need OBS, an encoder box, or a laptop?

No. Videk Director does the encoding and streaming itself. There is no capture card, no hardware switcher, and no computer required in the chain — although you can run Director on a Mac if you prefer a big screen.

What streaming settings does Videk support?

Output resolution of 720p, 1080p, or 4K; H.264 or HEVC encoding; video bitrate from 1 to 8 Mbps with adaptive adjustment based on network conditions; audio bitrate from 64 to 320 kbps; and a keyframe interval of 1, 2, or 4 seconds.

Can I stream vertical video for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts?

Yes. Videk Director has a vertical video mode that switches the whole production to 9:16, affecting the camera feeds, preview, recordings, and stream output alike.

Can I add overlays, logos, or lyrics to the stream?

Yes. You can add image overlays (PNG or animated GIF) and text overlays with font sizes from 16 to 72 pt, positioned by dragging, scaled from 10% to 500%, rotated freely, and faded with an opacity control. Imported overlays stay in a library for reuse in later sessions.

Does Videk support 4K?

Yes. Videk Camera captures at 720p, 1080p, or 4K (3840×2160) at 24, 30, or 60 fps, and Videk Director can output 720p, 1080p, or 4K to the stream and recording.

In practice, 1080p is the sweet spot for multi-camera work over Wi-Fi, and 720p is the safest choice when you are running many cameras at once, because every extra pixel is bandwidth the network has to carry.

What professional camera controls does Videk Camera have?

Manual exposure compensation, ISO, shutter speed, white balance from 2,000K to 8,000K, auto-exposure lock, and tap-to-focus. Monitoring tools include zebra stripes for overexposure, focus peaking, a live 256-bin luminance histogram, false color, a rule-of-thirds grid, and frame guides for 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, and 2.35:1. Monitoring overlays are preview-only and never appear in the streamed or recorded video.

Can Videk switch cameras automatically?

Yes. Besides one-tap manual switching, the Director offers Auto mode, Timed mode (cycling every 2 to 120 seconds), and Random mode. Transitions include cut, fade, dissolve, push, and wipe.

Can I choose which microphone is used?

Yes. The Director has an audio source picker: use the microphone of any connected camera, or the Director device’s own microphone. You can change the audio source mid-recording.

Can I show more than one camera on screen at once?

Yes. The built-in GPU compositor supports single-camera full screen, side-by-side for two cameras, and a grid layout showing all connected cameras, with aspect-ratio-preserving letterboxing.

Does Videk upload my video to the cloud?

No. All video processing happens on-device and camera feeds travel only over your local network. Nothing is sent outside your network unless you deliberately start an RTMP stream, or enable iCloud archiving, which stores sessions in your own iCloud account.

Does Videk track me?
